if i cant get my hands on verbatims which is hands down the highest quality media around, i use dynex. i can burn no problem at the highest speeds with any other media but memorex. reason is because its just a shit media to burn anything on. i have had the same problem with burning on memorex dl 8x media and not only me, my friend with a different type of pioneer burner and other people are experiencing the same with this media.

dont listen to the manufactuer because it is always the best thing you can do to any device when you update its drivers because they fix certain issues with patches and bugs, things like that etc. I also have the same burner model with the latest firmware update vsoc. Does anyone have any ideas as to why I can't burn the Memorex 8X DVD9s, but I can burn Memorex 2.4 DVD9s? They then suggested that I take it to the retailer for servicing.

It looks like this DVD burner is picky on what media you can use it with. I tried burning it at 4x and it worked though. I tried burning PRODISC 8x DVD-R and it would not play on my Toshiba DVP 642 player.
